Our public engagement activities inspire learning, public debate and discussion about our research. We regularly participate in exhibitions, public events, lectures, fora, and reporting in the mass media with the aim of broadening public access and understanding of computer science.
The Department rewards and recognises staff who commit their time and engage with the public in this manner.
We also recognise those who seek to motivate young people to pursue careers in computer science, so participating in a public dialogue about computer science that is essential to the future of the Department.
If you would like to invite members of our Department to participate in an event, please either contact the individual directly (if you know who would be most appropriate), or contact doc-outreach@imperial.ac.uk.
Schools outreach
Computing in schools and taster days
Computing in Schools
Gaining first-hand experience of the school environment, our students encourage school pupils and enhance classroom teaching by implementing special teaching projects, designed using pedagogical approaches and observational learning.
Register your interest in hosting an Imperial Computing student at your school.
Taster Days
The Department of Computing actively looks to engage with schools, both by inviting students to visit the College and by having our staff and students visit schools to inspire and instruct.
Our Taster Courses are open to all Year 12 students and focus on the future of computing and how Imperial is at the forefront of creating that future.
Events
A Day in Computing
During Summer, the Department of Computing hosts a special day for 11 - 14 year olds to meet researchers, watch lectures, have tours, and practice their coding skills in our labs.
Coding for Children
Imperial Codelab engages secondary school pupils in computing and STEM subjects through creative coding projects led by talented Imperial students and alumni.
